For Action: 2024 Energy & Utility Skills Inclusion Measurement Framework

The Inclusion Measurement Framework is a vital tool for evaluating progress in attracting, recruiting, retaining and developing a diverse workforce.

Produced by Energy & Utility Skills, with data partners The Equal Group, the framework can help highlight areas which need to be addressed to foster inclusivity and diversity in the workplace, using shared data.

It is crucial that as many companies as possible contribute data to the framework, to make sure the collective insights that we can all draw from it are as rich as possible.

EDI Top Tip: Making space for Employee Resource Groups

Empowering colleagues to form Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) for shared identities and interests can lead to invaluable recommendations on how your company can improve its EDI culture.

Contributions to these groups should be recognised as essential, and participating colleagues should not suffer from their time being squeezed through lack of acknowledgment of the extra demand placed on them.

We encourage you to consider how you are enabling ERGs in your workplace:

  • Have you checked that colleagues are able to carve out time in their working day to contribute without experiencing stress?
  • Does your organisation have core EDI targets in place that position the work towards and success of ERGs as central to business operations?
  • Do these groups have executive-level sponsors?

To learn more about the value of Employee Resource Groups, check out our case study on ‘Implementation and embedding of our Colleague Communities’ from Northern Gas Networks.
