What is happening with TIDE?
TIDE is the industry’s EDI initiative, focused on inclusion (all diversity characteristics) and sector-wide. It was initially set up as a volunteer-led group in 2022, and has had a key focus on data and sharing good practice.
This is the second year that TIDE has run the Health Index (which measures the EDI maturity of companies across the sector), and this year’s results, along with the energy sector results of the Inclusion Measurement Framework (which measures the workforce diversity across the sector) will be revealed at the EDI in Energy Conference.
We’ve continued to share information, events and good practice across the sector – such as this newsletter and via our LinkedIn channel – and there are lots of resources on the Energy EDI Hub too, from EDI groups to webinars.
As some of you may know, TIDE brought in two new co-chairs, Jane Cooper from RenewableUK and Sandie Dhlamini from The Pensions Regulator. They undertook a review of TIDE along with the partner CEOs to determine where it was adding value, and how it could be properly resourced in the longer-term. The outcome of this is still ongoing, and we hope to be able to provide a fuller update soon.
We’d like to say a big thank you to both Jane and Sandie for their invaluable work in progressing TIDE now their term has ended.
In the meantime do keep using the hub, following TIDE on LinkedIn and sharing your news with diversity@energy-uk.org.uk so we can promote events and good practice across the sector.
Energy & Utility Skills Awards 2025
Nominations are now open for this year’s Energy & Utility Skills Awards! With twelve awards in total, there are opportunities for all: employers, employees, training providers and colleges. Nominations close on 20 June so don’t miss out!
#ShiftMindsets
Social Mobility Day is coming up on 12 June and we’d love to support the industry to get involved! Be part of the conversation by sharing your Shift Moment on LinkedIn – the turning point in your career or organisation that defied expectations, proved people wrong, or challenged traditional narratives about success. Do tag TIDE and we’d be happy to support.
Learn more about how to get involved.
Events
Have you used TIDE’s industry-wide EDI Calendar yet? It’s a great tool to help you catch annual milestones recognising EDI themes and stay aware of upcoming events across the sector. You can even add your own events for the TIDE team to support and promote.

Featured case study: ‘Licence to Hire’ Inclusive Recruitment Training – EDF
EDF’s ‘Licence to Hire’ training was developed to improve recruitment outcomes by equipping hiring managers with inclusive, data-driven hiring practices. Launched in 2023 and made essential in 2024, the training has already helped foster fairer, more effective recruitment.
